What is a Veteran?
as defined in Webster's Dictionary veteran: n.
person who has served a long time
A veteran is a son or daughter, a brother or sister,
a father or mother, an uncle or aunt, a grandparent, and a friend.
A veteran is one who answered a nation's call
to serve and protect. Leaving the familiar surroundings of home and
loved ones behind, the veteran embarked on a journey - a journey they
never will forget.
The veteran experienced challenges that impact life forever. Some of
those challenges are mental, while others are physical. Regardless of
which, the veteran meets them head-on and carries on.
Memories and friendships are forged that last
for all of time. A comradeship is developed that compares with none
other. Some of those comrades may be lost, but are never forgotten.
A veteran deserves much gratitude and unbounded
recognition. With pride in country, the veteran has stood before
adversity to defend freedoms.
In my work, I have had the pleasure to meet many fine veterans! I have seen the scars left by shrapnel still in an arm or leg, the feet that still swell from days on end in the jungles and swamps, heard of the terrors and night sweats brought on by memories that will not fade. I wish you all godspeed and my small thank you! **An important note** Be sure to have your discharge papers (DD214) recorded with your local county recorder's office. You will need a certified copy to file any future claims with the Veterans Administration for benefits and with the Social Security Administration as well. If you may have a question regarding veterans benefits, feel free to contact me. I'll do my best to assist. ~Bubbles~
